STAT
SPECIAL TERTIARY ADMISSIONS TEST (STAT) is a series of related tests designed to assess a range of competencies commonly considered important for success in tertiary study. STAT assesses your ability to understand the material given and to think critically about issues, rather than to test knowledge of curriculum or a specific academic subject.
Many tertiary institutions in Australia use STAT as part of their admissions procedure for certain applicants.
UAC administers two versions of STAT – Multiple Choice and Written English.
STAT Multiple Choice is a two-hour test with 10 minutes reading time. It consists of 70 questions – half verbal and half quantitative. Verbal questions require you to read and think about a passage of writing. Quantitative questions require you to interpret graphical displays of information, use mathematical relationships and apply reasoning to tables of data.
STAT Written English is a one-hour test with five minutes reading time. It requires written responses to two themes. Four prompts are presented for each theme from which you must choose one. The test aims to assess your ability to respond to the prompts in a thoughtful and purposeful way and to develop structured and organised pieces of writing.
It is your responsibility to find out whether STAT can be used for admission to the courses you are considering and which versions of STAT you are required to sit.
