Library

The R.C Perrau Library is an integral part of the school’s teaching and learning process. The library’s role is a multi-faceted one.

It supports the school’s curriculum and teaching needs by providing a range of current resource material.

It provides an opportunity for its users to develop their technological skills through the exploration and management of online information links.

It provides a safe and secure environment which encourages meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

Links have been established and will continue to be established with other educational bodies, such as NSW State Library, to allow quick access to additional information and online learning sources.

The library has established an excellent range of resources and educational links to support teaching and learning in the school.

The library is aware of its role as a major influence in the development of the necessary skills by our students to access, organize and utilise information through technology. As part of this awareness, programs have been developed in cooperation with classroom teachers for Stage 4 students across a number of KLA areas which integrate the information skills program with computer skills. Through their structured learning activity, students learn how to set up files, download and organize information and perform a range of functions on different types of technology.

To support this approach, the library has a number of computers available to students to access the internet and practice their computer skills. The challenge for the future is to expand this availability so that more students can access this resource at any given time.

The student’s welfare and recreational needs are an important consideration in the way that the library functions. Students have access to the library at recess and lunch, where they can feel secure and, in terms of the Bowral climate, comfortable.

The promotion of literature is also a high priority with the library committed to providing a range of current fiction titles and reading matter which inspire students to read. As part of this commitment, the library supports and encourages students to participate in external reading competitions, such as the MS Readathon and the Premier’s reading challenge.
